Let’s be real—life isn’t meant to be boring. The world is packed with experiences waiting for you to dive in. If you’re looking for ways to transform your life from ordinary into the extraordinary, you’ve come to the right place. Creating an interesting life isn’t about doing everything but about discovering what excites you—and staying busy with it. So, let’s explore how you can uncover your purpose/passion(s), stay engaged, and build a life filled with joy, meaning, and those “pinch-me” moments.
1. Discovering What Lights, You Up
Not sure what you’re passionate about yet? No worries! Exploration is key. The important thing to keep in mind is to be positive while exploring; you must also keep in mind that the act of self-exploration is a spiritual process - meaning, this is where GOD comes in. God created you, and he did so for a reason - You were designed and created for a very specific & special purpose; regardless of your story, you’re not here by accident, you were pre-conceived and created by God, which means it is not a question of whether or not you have interest(s)/purpose(s), it is a question of discovering what it is or what they are. So again, remain positive and have faith in the process that you will discover what makes you tick and gives you meaning, the minute you commit to the following process.
Warning:
- Do not compare yourself to others while conducting this exercise.
- DO NOT CONCERN YOURSELF WITH MONEY OR FAME!
- Remember that human beings are creatures of destiny - Your destiny was preordained before you got here. So, the question isn’t whether you have a purpose; it is, what is my purpose? Because you have a purpose and a destiny, everyone does!
- Remember that you’re in essence seeking the truth about yourself, and the truth isn’t always comfortable; oftentimes it will necessitate a change in who you are - your character, habits, beliefs, etc.
- While at some point, you may reflect on how your loved one’s feel about you i.e. comments they make about you or your character, this is ultimately a solitary exercise - meaning, this is a journey that you must undertake on your own.
“Much of humanity’s troubles stem from an inability to sit quietly with oneself.” - Blaise Pascal
- Lastly, nothing good in life comes easy - Your purpose & passion (s) (interests) are your meaning; when discovered, it is more valuable than money, jewelry, cars, etc. When pursued with passion, they will give you everything you could ever desire in this life. So, it is important that you never give up and realize that your purpose & passion(s) are worth fighting for.
“The graveyard is the richest place on earth, because it is filled with unfulfilled dreams, unwritten books, unsung songs, and unused talents.” - Les Brown
Now, the act of Discovering What Lights You Up:
- First and foremost, we all owe a purpose to GOD our creator; and our obligation to God is simple - To serve God is to keep him first in all that you do - think constantly about how to acknowledge, serve, and praise God in everything that you do. As prescribed by the bestselling book of all time - The Bible.
Paraphrasing Matthew 6:33: “Seek God first, and everything you seek will be given to you as well.” - The Bible
Ultimately, the key to living is to Serve GOD, Serve Humanity, and Yourself (including friends & family).

Ask yourself: What impact would you like to have on people as you live your life? We all have family & friends that we love - What do I usually enjoy doing while I am around them, that would leave them better off than they were before I came through? Believe it or not, there are answers to these questions, and even if you don’t have a lot of family & friends, we all know at least one person that we love or care about - What are some of the things that I do around them that they like? You might find that the following answers start popping up as you explore (focus on the actions that involve you) …
- When I’m comfortable with people, I like to encourage them and make them feel good about themselves.
- When I care, I am very protective - I like to make sure that my people are safe, I’d go to war for them in a heartbeat.
- When I care, I like to inspire & teach people - I love sharing my knowledge.
- I like to joke around - My friends are always laughing because of something that I say or do.
- I’m the music guy - Everybody wants me to run Spotify at their parties.
- When we travel, I become the de-facto leader - Making sure no one is left out, I plan things, I know all the hot spots, I like coming up with ideas and everyone ends up having a lot of fun.
- I’m a shining star in my book club, everybody always likes my insights and is concerned when I don’t show.
You get the idea. As you can see when you observe the underlined aspects of the examples stated above, you will see a pattern of positive impact(s) that is being made in those individual examples. Now, the next question is…
- You exist in a time & place for a reason (remember, you’re a creature of destiny) - Look around you and ask yourself, how can I do what I do on purpose, and for more people? Notice that you’re now going from interest to purpose - You’re essentially asking the question, how do I do what I do amongst my family & friends for a whole lotta other people? Now, it is time to acknowledge your time & place on planet earth - You live in the 21st century: The age of the great internet, the smartphone, podcasts, social media, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), etc. You exist now because God wants you to serve your purpose in this age - The key to your greatness lies in this age, and your journey to greatness begins now!
Let’s play around with some examples, shall We?
- Do you find yourself encouraging and supporting others? Maybe you can set-up your own podcast? Or your own YouTube channel? Or your own blog? Remember, this isn’t the time to concern yourself with money or fame - Just focus on serving this purpose for others.
- You’re the protective kind? You like looking out for your friends & family? Maybe you can look into investigating and researching threats that face us in today’s society - You can become a subject-matter expert on these threats as well as how people can stay safe against these threats - You can offer your content to the world via any of the several platforms available to you.
- Do you buy the coolest/rarest things for your friends or do your friends always love having you around cause they admire your sense of fashion, or things that you have in your house? Maybe you can set up your own ecommerce store and offer this unique taste to others?
As you can see, as you start to iterate your purpose, you will find that various interests will begin to reveal themselves. For instance, going back to the 3 examples previously discussed, the first person is now all of a sudden interested in the act of creating, running, and programming a podcast; the second person is now interested in researching threats and dangers in society, so they can be better informed; the third person is now interested in learning about running an e-commerce store.
2. Start Doing! Remember this is a journey, you must never give up. For some, it will be a one-shot-one-kill deal; for others, you might try various interests - trying various interests before you finally find the perfect one that allows you to serve your purpose, in a way that you enjoy for the most part.
3. How do you know when you’re getting warmer?
Easy - You know you’re doing the right thing when you begin to get passionate about your cause. You might experience some of the following signs…
- You find yourself ignoring your phone (social media) while doing.
- You find that you enjoy the process of engaging in interests that serve your purpose. You can’t wait to make daily progress with them - 1 follower or subscriber at time, 1 site visit at a time, 1 comment at a time, 1 like at a time, 1 share at a time, etc.
- You get a surge of self-esteem - Feeling good about yourself all of a sudden.
- You feel a sense of peace while doing it.
- You feel a sense of purpose and happiness while doing it.
- No more sadness or depression!
- You find yourself only networking with people that help you move forward.
- You stop looking for distractions i.e. alcohol, drugs, television, social media, excessive eating, etc.
- You find that you’re busy, you find that your time becomes very valuable, that you’re not willing to waste it anymore.
- You feel like you’re becoming, overall, a better person.
4. Continue to Stay Busy, Stay Happy
Again, the trick is to keep doing no matter what. Being idle can lead to overthinking and frustration. When you engage in activities you care about, your brain lights up with a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Remember, doing is what makes you what you are; it is not the label others give to you, it is what you’re doing that labels you. For example, you don’t become a writer because some person somewhere calls you a writer, you don’t become a writer because you call yourself a writer, no. YOU BECOME A WRITER BECAUSE YOU WRITE. This doesn’t mean you won’t have rough days or a season when you absolutely don’t feel like doing, of course you will, but you must show-up as part of your routine. We are creatures of habit, when you show up, your brain will register you as still enrolled, as opposed to dropping out which guarantees a failure… everybody has an off-day, off-week, or even an off-month - For example, doing a light jog on leg day is an off-day, but at least you showed up to the gym - Your brain registers it as an effort, and research also shows that days when you show up against all odds are the days when your best work is often done. So, show up. No excuses.
5. Make Your Passion Work for You
Once you’ve figured out your purpose, and the interests that will help you serve it, immediately, weave those interests into your life on a daily basis - Every little bit counts. For example,
- Assuming, you love to alleviate sadness in the world by making people laugh? You will find that your interests would automatically include some of the following…
- Content Creation
- Stage Performance (Practice makes perfect)
- Comedic Writing
See, life is getting interesting already with 3 interests to play with; some you’ll be merely interested in, and others, you will be very passionate about; but ultimately, you will have these interests to engage in.
6. The Secret to Long-Term Happiness:
The secret to long-term happiness is at the intersection of your interests (passions) and your purpose.
- Your Passions - Are interests that empower your purpose. They are activities that you have to engage in in-order to serve your purpose.
- Your purpose - Is your sense of meaning, direction, or intention.
The key thing is, as you identify your purpose and meaning in life, you will begin to find an endless list of interests that can serve your purpose or meaning. Generally, you will have countless more interests than you have purpose; while it is possible to identify more than one purpose that you'd like to serve, you will continue to find several more interests that can serve your identified purposes as long as you live.
Long-term happiness isn’t about chasing one giant dream—it’s about making steady progress with your identified purpose(s). Whether it's leveling up your skills in various interests or meeting new people through your hobbies, growth or progress always feels good.
When you’re busy working on your interests, life becomes more exciting. There’s always something to look forward to, a reason to get up in the morning, and that’s what makes life interesting. Every small step towards becoming better brings happiness, confidence, and satisfaction.
7. Finally
The most interesting life isn’t about doing everything—it’s about finding what makes your heart race and filling your days with it. Remember: it is the purpose you are serving, or ultimately looking to serve with your interests that make life worth living.
So, go ahead — Identify the various purposes you already serve with those in your life; narrow them down to the ones you want to serve the wider world with. List all the interests (activities) that you will need to engage in, in-order to serve the aforementioned purpose.
